The Wisdom of Shared Suffering
Marty Grubbs • 23-May-2021
Senior Pastor Marty Grubbs continued in our Unwavering sermon series, focusing on Job chapters 29 and 30. Job, after suffering the overwhelming losses in his life and bad advice from friends, takes a searching and fearless personal inventory. He looks back on his life, and then faces his present condition, acknowledging the fullness of his suffering. Next week we will get to see how God restores Job’s life. Before that, it is important to look at the breadth of his suffering and consider our own response to our suffering, as well as how to come alongside those who are in pain and share in their suffering.
“Pity can be near-sighted and condescending; shared suffering can be dignifying and life-changing. As we look at Job’s suffering and praying and worshiping, we see that he has already blazed a trail of courage and integrity for us to follow.” Eugene Petersen
