How Can We Trust God When Life is Going Wrong?

Executive Pastor Terry Feix continued teaching in the book of Job, looking at chapters 36 and 37 where Elihu takes the focus that has been on Job and what could be causing his current trouble, and turns it to God. Elihu doesn’t blame God, but he reminds Job that God is consistently two things: God is all-powerful, and God loves him. Either of those truths on their own would not be comforting. A god that is all powerful without being rooted in love, becomes tyrannical. A god that is full of love yet doesn’t execute power is enabling, and not helpful. But Job’s God, our God, is both equally. God gives meaning to our suffering, is with us through trials, and overcomes the world. We have the advantage of history to know Job is restored and redeemed in the end. That is not only Job’s story. That is our story. Regardless of our current circumstances, God will be victorious. Our suffering, (past, present, and future), is not meaningless. God will use all circumstances for good. Jesus promises we will endure suffering in life, and he serves as proof that God is powerful enough and loves us enough to not let pain and suffering have the last word in our lives, but instead, to give meaning and purpose to that pain, redeem our circumstances, and raise us to new life in victory.
